First Gurlz Ride of 2011 - April 7th

We are trying to switch over 100% to the new bouldermountainbike.org website, however until we get things all sorted out, we'll be using a mix of mechanisms to get the word out.

For more information on the ride this week, click here and sign up!

We have Moved!

The Gurlz Ride Blog has moved over to the new Boulder Mountainbike Alliance web site at bouldermountainbike.org.

The website will primarily take the place of the wiki page and the blog we used before to announce rides and coordinate carpooling. PLEASE log on and sign up for a web account using "Register" in the upper right hand corner of the website if you have not already done so. You do not have to sign up as a BMA member first (but you can if you want; it's easy and super cheap!).

Once you have registered for the BMA website, go ahead and join the Gurlz Ride Group by:
  • Clicking on "Social Rides" at the top of the page.
  • Then click on "Gurlz Ride" either on the right side of the page or the middle of the page.
  • Finally, click on the green button that says "Join this Group"; follow any instructions prompted.
Easy Peasy!

We will be using the new website to set up rides through an Event Calendar. We will coordinate carpooling using comments to the Ride/Event.

The blog has been relocated to reside inside the BMA website and we'll use the blog to share photos after each ride.

One super nice feature of the new website is a module that lets all of you suggest an event! This way, you can schedule your own rides in addition to the weekly rides we set up for Thursdays. You can even suggest other events like parties and what not! There's lots more! I'll be sending out additional information so everyone knows how to use the new system (don't worry - it will be painless!).

Please check out the new BMA website and join the group! In there you'll soon find an announcement about the upcoming BMA Banquet, a swanky event you won't want to miss! We'll even have a couple of tables reserved for all of you ladies (and your dates).

BMA Gurlz Ridez Ended for 2010

The sun has set on the 2010 BMA Gurlz Ride Season. Formal group rides will resume in the spring of 2011; most likely April-ish (weather dependent).

Thanks to all the fabulous ride leaders who made this year's rides possible and all the participants who made the season a success!

We will be getting together one more time to celebrate a great spring and summer of gurlz on mountain bikes. It'll be a fun evening for us to see each other without our helmets on and provides a great opportunity to exchange phone numbers and emails with new friends.

Stay tuned to this blog for an update on the End of Season PAR-TAY!!!!

September 23-North Boulder Twilight Ride

This Thursday, September 16th, we are going to ride some relatively mellow North Boulder Trails.

Meet at the Four Mile Creek Trailhead at 5:30 (earlier than usual). The ride will depart promptly at 5:45. It is very likely that we will finish the ride at dusk and everyone must be at least "street legal" with a front light and a red rear reflector or blinkie, as one option for finishing the ride will include a short section of paved road. Sunset is at 7:00 on Thursday evening.

Dinner and drinks will follow TBD.

Important Info about the Rides:

1. All riders MUST wear a helmet, bring water, and have a trail-ready bike. Riders should also carry the usual basics: spare tube(s), a pump, tire levers, a chain tool, and basic Allen wrenches.

2. All riders ride at their own risk, group leaders take no responsibility for rider safety/injury.

3. Riders must sign a liability waiver once during the season. If this is your first ride of the season, please bring a signed waiver with you or be prepared to complete one at the meeting spot.

4. Rides launch at 5:45 PM so be at the trail head by 5:30 PM, dressed and ready to roll by 5:45 PM.

5. If the weather is iffy, make sure to check the blog after 3:00 PM on Thursdays for updated info.

6. Please don't be shy about coming out - all of us love biking and would like to hang out with girls that are interested in biking.

7. For planning purposes, please post your name in the comment section if you plan to join us.

The comment section is also great for planning carpools, etc. If you cannot access the blog post, let us know you'll be there by emailing us at bmagirls.rideleader@gmail.com.

Hope to see you on Thursday!

September 16- Betasso

This Thursday, September 16th, we are heading up the Canyon to Betasso. We will start with two groups, one will ride from the Justice Center on Canyon up the connector trail and the other will meet at the Betasso trail head. Both groups will convene at the top of Betasso near the facilities and from there we’ll break into groups based on skill/motivation that day/friends you want to ride with/whatever.

If you plan to ride the connector trail, be aware the trail is steep/loose in some sections. This section of trail is considered intermediate/advanced, although the Betasso loop at the top is a beginner/intermediate trail. If you plan to ride the connector, meet at the Justice Center, 1777 6th Street, be ready to ride by 5:00 PM.

If you plan to meet at the Betasso trail head be there at 5:45PM, and be ready to ride at 6PM. Use the comment field below to coordinate carpooling. May also want to carpool from the Justice Center (meet at 5:20, ready to roll out at 5:30pm).

Dinner and drinks will follow at TBD.

Sept. 9th - Doudy Draw and Springbrook Trails

This week's ride is a tour of the trails on the west side of Highway 93 in south Boulder. We will ride some of the newer trails in the Boulder system, including the Springbrook loop. This ride features swoopy fun trails with beautiful views of the Flatirons. The trail is beginner-friendly but fun for more seasoned riders. We will likely split into groups based on skill level, so beginners and more experienced riders alike are encouraged to come out - everyone will get a good ride in!

To carpool, meet at the Basemar Shopping Center on the southeast corner of Broadway and Baseline. From there we will head to the Doudy Draw trail head. Be at the carpool spot around 5:25, we'll be leaving for the trail head at 5:30. If you want to meet at the trail head, take Eldorado Springs Drive west off Highway 93. The Doudy Draw trail head is on the south side of the road (left) and please be there ready to ride by 6:00 sharp.

Dinner and drinks will follow at Larkburger at 2525 Arapahoe (near Zolos).
