DESPITE THE SNOW, WE ARE STILL PLANNING TO HAVE THE SKILLS CLINIC APRIL 8th, ASSUMING IT WILL MELT IN TIME. Please check back Thursday after 3:00 pm for final verification.
It's almost spring and therefore time for us to get riding! We have laid out an excellent season of weekly rides and clinics for all levels of female mountain bikers, building on the success we had with last year's group and making some improvements to hopefully make the rides better for all of you.
It's almost spring and therefore time for us to get riding! We have laid out an excellent season of weekly rides and clinics for all levels of female mountain bikers, building on the success we had with last year's group and making some improvements to hopefully make the rides better for all of you.
Our rides are held every Thursday starting in the spring and running through August/September. All rides are NO DROP - you will never be left behind to find your way back to the trail head! Rides begin at 6:00pm and end before dark, so you will not need lights. We follow each ride up on a social level, eating dinner at a variety of local establishments.
This year we plan to offer a beginner option on every ride. Toward that end, we are looking for beginner riders who would like to lead or sweep other beginners. We will teach you what you need to know to lead or sweep. Please contact us at bmagirls.rideleader@gmail.com if you are interested.
Next week (Wednesday, March 24th at 7:00 pm), we will be at the Boulder Outdoor Divas for their Bike Tech Talk. This is a great opportunity to learn some basic bike repair skills from female bike mechanics and hear about more our BMA Gulrz Ridez as well as other women-only riding opportunities in the Boulder area.
Our first weekly ride will be held on April 8th at 6:00pm. This will be a skills clinic held at the Lyons Bike Park. This will be a great opportunity to refresh your brain and muscles! The session on Thursday will be FREE and open to ALL levels!! We will be working on basic skills on flat ground, the pump track and other park features. You will learn body position, how to get over objects and how to build momentum without pedaling, allowing you to fly up climbs with less effort and generally pick up speed whenever you want. Once again, this session will be geared to all levels!
The bike park is located in Lyons, southwest of the Middle and Senior High School off 2nd Avenue, south of the river.
Please try to carpool! To carpool, meet at 28th and Iris – SE corner next to Sol Azteca at 5:15pm or meet at Sandstone Park in Lyons by 5:45pm; we will ride over to the bike park together, as it is located out in the middle of a field. If you know where the bike park is, feel free to show up there ready to ride at 6pm. Additional parking can be found in Lyons around Sandstone Park (between 3rd and 4th on Railroad Ave).
Dinner and drinks will follow. PLEASE make a comment on the blog letting us know if you will be coming to the clinic and if you will be staying for dinner! THANKS!
Important Info about the Rides:
1. All riders MUST wear a helmet, bring water, and have a trail-ready bike. Riders should also carry the usual basics: spare tube(s), a pump, tire levers, a chain tool, and basic allen wrenches.
2. All riders ride at their own risk, group leaders take no responsibility for rider safety/injury.
3. Riders must sign a liability waiver once during the season. If this is your first ride of the season, please bring a signed waiver with you or be prepared to complete one at the meeting spot.
4. Rides launch at 6:00pm so be at the trail head by 5:45pm, dressed and ready to roll by 6:00pm.
5. If the weather is iffy, make sure to check the blog after 3:00pm on Thursdays for updated info.
6. For permitting and planning purposes, please post your name in the comment field if you plan to join us. The comment field is also great for planning carpools, etc.
Please don't be shy about coming out - all of us love biking and would like to hang out with girls that are interested in biking.

I'll be there for the ride/clinic and dinner afterwards! (Erin Lewis- Intermediate/Advanced)
ReplyDeleteI'll be attending the clinic and perhaps dinner afterward (will know as it gets closer). I'm looking to get in on a carpool in the Gunbarrel area if anyone else is coming from that area?

ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to meeting, riding, and dining with you ladies!
ReplyDeleteI am planning to attend this. I can take someone who needs a ride. I have bike rack that can accommodate a total of two bikes and I live in SoBo.
ReplyDeleteLeah - There are a few ladies that live up near Gunbarrel - myself included. However, I will be coming from work on the south side and will likely stop at Sol Azteca for the group carpool. If you don't get any takers on carpooling from Gunbarrel, please consider coming down to Sol Azteca. It's a little out of the way but not too much.
ReplyDeleteJohn - thanks for posting about the Bike Patrol. Your linky did not come through, so I am inserting it here (http://bma-mtb.org/patrol/)
Hi- I would love to join you for the ride on April 8th, and possibly dinner after. Looking forward to meeting you...
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on attending both the ride and dinner.
ReplyDeletewahoo! i'll be there! leah- i'll be coming from gunbarrel if ya wanna carpool, but i'll be staying for dinner... i'll shoot you an email.
ReplyDeleteIt turns out I'm not going to be able to make it Thursday. Bummer. Any chance we can get these events posted on Facebook or Evite, Meetup or somesuch? Way easier to manage the e-calendars.
ReplyDeleteI am posting these rides to the Boulder Mountain Bikers Meet Up Group:

ReplyDeleteI am planning on attending tomorrow night as long as you're still holding it. Not sure if the trails will be dry enough to ride without tearing them up.
ReplyDeleteHi! I'll meet up at Sol Azteca tomorrow to either catch a ride or follow depending on how many people show up. Looking forward to meeting everybody (hopefully the conditions will be dry enough).
ReplyDeleteI am going to come for the ride. Have to be back in Boulder at 8, so I won't be staying for the dinner.
ReplyDeleteI'll be at Sol Azteca and I can take at least two other riders and bikes.
ReplyDeleteHeather--I'm looking to sell my small Giant Anthem 3, so I can bring it for you to try tomorrow if you want. It's probably good for someone 5'4" or taller.
I may also try to bring my Titus Loco Moto, which is probably good for someone 5'0" to 5'4".
ReplyDeleteHi ladies-
ReplyDeleteMy name is Sam and my partner Jen and I are planning on coming out tonight. This will be our first time learning any skills, but we are probably beg/int level riders. Looking forward to riding with you!
Do you guys have a sense of when and where you might be going for dinner? I can't make the biking and skills session but am thinking about socializing.
ReplyDeleteI am planning on coming for the first time. It will be my first skills course, but I have been Mtn. Biking for about 6 years. This is my big spring/summer back after having a baby! Looking forward to meeting eveyone. I am unsure if I can meet for dinner after. Just Jenn, not Paul too! :)
ReplyDeleteI am working out a reservation for Oskar Blues in Lyons for dinner.
ReplyDeleteHi - I'm planning on attending the clinic, but unfortunately not dinner. Will be my first skills clinic. Excited to meet some new people and enjoy the spring day!
ReplyDeleteI will be there tonight, not sure yet about dinner.
